Take the money out of prsion.

Private citizens are buying prisons then putting pressure on local police to make arrests whether justly or unjustly so the prisons can fill up beds thereby receiving more money. Instead,prisons should be under the control of state and federal officials no private owners.

the punishments are usually disproportional to the crime too. part of the problem are the written laws; they're structured in a way that leave black males at a disadvantage in the US judicial system. whether you wanna debate intent or not is up to you. all i know is it's evident in the results this system produces. i was just talking to a friend of mine last night who went to prison for over 20 years. he been out for a few years now and been doing extremely well for himself but he was telling me it's crazy because it's like all these people have authority over you life and in reality, they're just excersizing their power given to them thru the law. our laws are structure the same way jim crow laws are, except less explicit.

There's a profit in sending people to jail since a lot of prisons are privately owned by rich people.What this means is that any private citizen can by a prison then look for ways to fill beds. If the government or state officials took control of these prisons, you would see the incarceration rate drop immediately mainly because there's no profit in prisons.

Not me but my cousin has done some shyt. No jail time but probation . Wish he turned his life around. Got a kid and all.

Just want to make a real quick point about something I see in this article that is irritating me.

In reality some things will have to be tolerated because there are no solutions, only trade-offs. For example, it maybe true that low-income people are at a disadvantage when it comes to legal representation, but what is the alternative? Force everybody to use court-appointed public defenders, or have tax payers subsidize the price of expensive lawyers?

Everything you do to fix problem X will involve other variables, so the only thing you can do is evaluate which alternative produces the best trade-off for every variable, and even than negatives will exist. Unfortunately, the people who wrote this article seem to have not grasped that basic fact of reality.
