Right now, only threw in about ~$400 (I'm keeping the weekly coinbase limit to regulate going all out) split between: TRX, XRB, XVG, TRX, XRB, REQ and ECA (really just because it was the first coin I knew about that was under .01)
About to throw in more money this Thursday when I get paid again though.

ICOs are the initial coin offerings, you get them at a much cheaper rate than what you see on the exchanges. For example the ico for ICX was held months ago, during that time they were selling 2500 ICX for 1 eth, at the time eth was going for $230. Just 2 months after the ico ended 2500 ICX is worth around $14,000.
You incur all the risk with icos, a company can fold up and chuck the deuces after they get the money and there's really nothing you can do about it. But, the credible ones are giving out massive payoffs, it seems to be a average ROI of 4-5x almost immediately after launch.
To get access you sign up for the icos mailing list, then they usually tell you when the whitelist is and when to register, then a public sale etc. Follow Ian Balina on twitter, check out ico tracking sites and keep up with this thread. That's the 2018 phase for this thread, we're moving into ICOs, fukk this trading and hoping.

He does and he doesn't. That strat favours a bull market which cryptos have been in over the last 5 years or so. A sell off, specifically a prolonged sell off will see you broke following that strat. He's identified a consistent entry mechanic which is to be applauded but at no point does he talk about exits (on the downside). Averaging (which is ultimately what he's doing) works 80% of time - but speaking from experience - when it doesn't...

If I hold til Jan 2nd of next year, due to PROOF OF STAKE, I get 500,000 coins over the course of a year and I can sell and avoid a large cap gains tax

You can close the wallet, that's fine, your coins are safe. But I think (and maybe someone will confirm this) to stake your coins (in basic terms earn residuals from them) the wallet has to be open & encrypted, I'm not too sure tho.
