I'm curious on history. If I recall, Austin won 96. Maybe someone else from that era remembers if he was already IC champ by then or just starting to heat up. When was the match with Bret at WM 11 right? That was in early 95. Not sure if his KOTR win was to help build a new guy or if he was already built by then just not ME level. Same for any other winners. Gunther already a ME level talent. The issue is that he held the IC title for so long that there was no reason for him to be up on the ME. And that's if they're even gonna make anything meaningful with the win cuz I don't think Woods got pushed or anything or the woman, I think it was Zelina. Only reason she got a title match was likely cuz it was PR and they needed the pr. But winning hasn't really meant much.

Austin was kind of floundering after splitting from Dibiase. He was the Million Dollar Champ but nothing of note. He changed his name to Stone Cold Steve Austin (from the Ringmaster), won KOTR 96, cut the Austin 3:16 promo and from there became GOATED.

KOTR used to really elevate people but now it's just a mechanism to make people have a royalty gimmick. Xavier won it and was kind of getting a push until they bytched him out to Roman, had Roman put on his crown and ultimately destroy it. And it was just dropped from there as he got hurt.

Looking back, the KOTR hasn't really vaulted anybody to superstardom since... I guess Brock Lesnar? And I feel like it was obvious from his main roster debut that he was going places.

He will probably be on next week, since they are only doing 2 men's KotR matches tonight, they likely do the other 2 next week, could be the same for the last women's or they do that this weekend. Just need patience unlike these marks.
