Wardlow has been on one of those Dark Stimulus winning streaks that AEW likes to do and is in the Top 5 rankings so having him get a win over Punk would just elevate him as an impressive singles wrestler which seems to be the direction the company wants to go with him.
Honestly if the choice is let Grandpa Punk get another meaningless win over a young lion or give a young lion a signature win over Punk, the only smart choice is to have the young guy win.
