Nah, Will's dad in real life was a good dude.
But in actuality his father had a major influence in his life. According to an Essence interview, Will Smith explained what his father was like. “Dad was tough but not tyrannical,” Smith told Essence. “He kept me in line. He’d get this look that said, ‘One more step, Will, and it’ll get ugly.’ He was an independent businessman-he set up refrigeration in supermarkets-and he always provided for us. He’s a steady and positive figure in my life.”
think his point is that fake story/rumor was passed around as if true
Do you guys think this was based on Will Smith's life or something? His dad was a deadbeat.
That's kind of the point of him moving to with his aunt & uncle.

It's funny how we never hear about his real dad or his first son like ever. Does he even acknowledge ol Trey? Breh gotta be about 24 now
Wow! I've never seen a pic of his parents before. Nice looking family. Jada looks pretty here too.
Unless there is more to the story between my mother and him...
By all accounts, Will Smith's real dad was a hardworking businessman who raised his family in a nice Philly neighborhood. Yet so many people probably thought he was a deadbeat based on that Fresh Prince episode and how good Will's acting was in that scene
