I felt Shippuden fell off after the pain series to be honest. The build up and atmosphere around his character was epic. The great ninja war was a decline

This. Dropped the anime an arc or two after chunin exams. Dropped the manga after the first rescue sasuke arc.
Kishi said from the beginning that Sasuke was his favorite character so the fix was in. He was always going to be at the center of the story.
The whole Madara, Ten Tails, Kabuto shyt should have never happened. I originally thought Akatsuki were taking the tailed beasts so they could become jinchuriki any be unstoppable. The ninja war should have been the hidden villages vs Akatsuki. Sasuke could have joined Akatsuki to replace Itachi instead of his lame ass Team Hebi.
Madara putting the whole world under genjutsu was the dumbest idea
The power levels were ridiculous. We saw the 3rd fight Orochimaru and Jiraiya vs Pein. They were using high level jutsu but still having to use strategy. That should have been standard.

Watching that video posted above I knew the s*** was long but never realized the war arc was a little more than 1/3 of the whole series
