Was jumping in to say 9/11 but since that's off the docket, it gotta be when MJ died. I was on a Cruise when the shyt happened and it was a surreal fukking experience. I ain't never really felt any shyt like that short of when the Chief Minister of the Island I live on died and the whole island shut down and went into sort of like a semi-mourning period out of respect.
I was drinking heavy at the time and chasing trim so when I went back to my Cabin and was like
Jackson 5 movie playing? Dope! Let me watch this shyt, I'm flipping through the meager list of stations and noticing EVERYTHING is MJ related, so I'm like "nikka what?"
Then my Mom's calls me up on the Cabin phone and asks me if I see the news. I was like
(We noticed that atleast one famous celeb always dies when we were on Vacation, with the most notable being Bernie Mac the year before)
Jackson 5 movie played the whole night.
The Internet WORLDWIDE was buggy as fukk 'cause I remember everybody running to the comp labs and wasting up all them expensive ass minutes to check the news/skype/email people. Called some folk back home and they said the Internet at home just quit.
Nothing wouldn't load. They started playing pure Michael Jackson tunes for two days with a planned MJ day/dance off shyt in the works for one of the later nights.
What was more cool yet scary was the amount of work Grafitti artists put in within the hours that he died.
I was in Russia at the time and that had to be the first time I saw cops standing next to hooded dudes during murals and busting out
moves on some respect shyt.
Someone had painted a big ass
sign and rolled it off a tall building amongst other pieces and the shyt was amazing. I wish I had a camera/smartphone back then to take pics, but every port we stopped at, MJ was the topic. From Merch to Music. Who wasn't dancing, was singing shyt and this one chick when I was in Bosnia was holding a big ass tabloid picture and weeping like a baby
. shyt was crazy.
