The Jonah Keri Podcast #22: John Coppolella | Nerdist

i know this team is brutally bad now but we have so freaking much talent in our farm system that its hard to not be excited about the future

that mallex/inciarte OF and swanson/albies up the middle :blessed:

Thank god.

If they would have replaced Freddi Gonzalez a couple of years ago and kept the roster we had before dumping everybody we'd probably be contending right now. :mindblown:

Nah I disagree. This team is in this position b/c we had a terrible farm system that had been depleted under Frank Wren and a team that lacked power and was full of contact hitters. This team wasn't gonna contend for a long time and we could've either dragged it out and been mediocre or gone total rebuild and been terrible. The Braves chose to go full WOAT and here we are. But to suggest getting rid of Fredi earlier would've made us a legit contender is disingenuous at best

BTW, Fredi didn't deserved to get fired for this yr but his questionable manager skills in the postseason and down the stretch of seasons proved he was incapable of being an elite manager. He was a good dude but it was time to move on

i honestly dont think we were that far away 2 years ago

people forget we ran away with the east and are one fredi decision away from beating the dodgers in the postseason. after that who knows?

then the year after that (2014) we were all alone in first at the start of august before the team quit on fredi like they seem to do every other year

now obviously we were never going to resign justin and j hey or make that one additional splash signing bc our ownership are cheap a$$holes. so in that context we were right to blow it up.

but as the giants have proved with their late season surges, i think it is a bit disingenuous to say we were that far off in the 2013-2014 years. blowing it up was the right move but i dont buy us not being a contender if we had a non retard managing us those years

Breh this team hasn't won a playoff series in 15 years. Don't let the fact we won a lot of regular season games a few years ago fool you, this team hasn't had a World Series caliber roster since the late 90's

past history has nothing to do with the current construction of a roster

that 2013 braves team was legit very good. i dont buy that we were that far away if we have a normal manager

obviously we had to blow things up bc we werent resigning the big time players and our farm system was trash. my argument is that i dont buy into the narrative that we couldnt have won in 2013 or 2014
