Two women and a man are facing felony charges after a Sunday morning incident inside an Alexander City department store that included shots fired inside the store.
Alexander City Police Department Cpl. Michael Howell said that officers responded to the Roses located in the Alex City Shopping Center off Dadeville Road at 11:50 a.m. on a report of shots fired.
“When the officer arrived and was making his way to the door of the store he encountered a female armed with a gun and he actually witnessed her shoot before he made entry,” Howell said. “He ordered her to stop and she complied, putting down the gun and raising her hands.”
The officer found a man inside who is being charged as an accessory, having apparently given the gun to his the woman he was with. A woman who had allegedly deployed pepper spray towards the others was also taken into custody.
“There was an altercation between the couple and the woman who had the spray,” Howell said. “It escalated into what we found with three people now facing felony charges.”
Miraculously, no one was seriously injured in the incident.
Courtney C. Gover, 25 and Antonio L. Gover, 29, were arrested and charged with shooting into an occupied building.
Sernee Delshay McNeal, 28, was arrested and charged with illegal discharge of a chemical agent.
Alexander City Police Chief Willie Robinson said that they do not believe that Antonio Gover fired shots, but due to his role in the incident is facing the same charges.
As of Monday afternoon all three remained in custody.
Robinson said they are still looking at exactly what started the altercation as none of the three suspects have been forthcoming with details in the case..
“The first thing that I thought when I got the call is that we were lucky that no one was hurt or killed,” Robinson said. “Shooting inside a store at that time of day, it’s really a miracle that we weren’t looking at multiple victims there. “
