The way I became so in depth was by reading a chapter then following it up with the wiki
The footnotes explain everything hidden or subtlety mentioned.

I was thinking about going hardcore and copping the hardcover 5 book collection, anyone has this? Is it worth it? How's the feel on your hands? Quality of the paper?

I just realized that Daenery's is a white savior

in the show I guess. In the books, slavery has no color. The crowd she frees is brown, white, black, etc. The writers of the show basically said the scene was filmed in Morocco, and thus most of the extras who showed up were naturally brown
