now that i know what it is i can say that it's stupid
holidays are pointless and usually meaningless, or have had their meanings distorted to the point of absurdity over the years; they're merely consumer checkpoints throughout the year...the fact that black folks feel the need to invent their own stupid holidays to fit in and feel some type of solidarity is pretty sad
but whatever floats your boat...if you wanna celebrate the date texas slaves got freed, do you![]()
You fam and all, but this post doesn't make any sense...it ain't about making up a holiday..its about celebrating a powerful part of our history; it has nothing to do with consumer culture or the capitalist culture of gifts and shyt; its about remembering when we finally took legal ownership over our own freedom and took one step closer to ending oppression; true, oppression continued and transformed into another monstrosity in industrial capitalism and Jim Crow/Apartheid, but our people used Juneteenth to spirngboard initiatives to gain political power and build OUR OWN institutions of education and worship; That's what Juneteenth is about: remembering our agency in building this country as a PEOPLE, not as individuals.
