You don't need a 7 day fire to ward off snakes. Secondly snakes aren't like wolves or tigers, they only attack when they feel threatened and prefer not to attack (I.e rattle snakes rattling as a warning, and striking as a last resort)
Very basic animal knowledge here. I prefer an island full of snakes to An island full of predatory mammals. Like bears or wild dogs
