After seeing this, I don't see how black players choose to go to schools like Alabama

what they need is a filthy rich alum

even though they are fbs programs oregon and okie state were laughing stock before t boone pickens and phil knight started giving blank cheques

i mean grambling was pumping out nfl players/cfl players at one point now

Problem is they were mostly during that a time when players weren't getting nearly as much money. I think their best bet would be to go to someone who isn't an alum but incredibly wealthy. Hell hit up Oprah, she got money to burn and she'd dig the publicity.

As somebody else said before, if the HBCUs started to attract the top notch high school athletes, laws would be passed to cut the funding of black colleges so fast it would make your head spin. We all know there's one things people love and will die for.......... MONEY.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
At the end of the day, if you're a great player you're going to get noticed regardless of what school you go to. Flacco went to Delaware and Steve McNair went to Alcorn State. Jerry Rice went to Mississippi Valley State.

Most of these players go to Alabama and other southern schools because of the "tradition". They go because of the great players that went to that school.

If a HBCU started recruiting 4 and 5 star talent they would be able to move up to the FBS, join a major conference which would then make it that much easier to recruit and the school would also be able to generate more revenue.

if they started recruiting top notch players they would be able to move up to a FBS conference. If Grambling for example with an SEC school they would get TV money and Bowl money. They would have way more resources.

nikka you act like Alabama's stadium always been that big or the always had all of that equipment and facilities.

This is how Alabama's stadium use to look

Man, I know Alabama gradually went from 20,000 to 101,000 over the years, I been a fan since I was born. So of course there was really no difference then between Bryant-Denny/Legion Field and Eddie Robinson Stadium or Jackson State's. And here's the difference

In that ole piss game on Saturday i saw a confederate flag being waved in the crowd.

Hbcus are not even FBS

Old piss fans wave that flag like its religion in Mississippi :wow: . I remember my mom telling me they were flying those flags everywhere when she was in Mississippi when seeing relatives a few years back. She went to see her late first cousin, who's a Miss State alum. That cousin was more than :pacspit: when she saw it when they were on a road trip to Jackson.

This is really a good conversation to have. If you could get the top 50 or 60 black athletes over a span of 2 or 3 years, to commit to HBCU's, there would be a change of power(in a way). These black schools would start getting more money. But here's the thing...

1) i dont think it's possible to get that to happen.

2) A lot of HBCU's have issues that go beyond money. Integrity is one of them. My sister went to one, and she said it was very ghetto. I was surprised and not surprised at the same time.

3) even if it all worked out, Im not sure what type of impact it would have on blacks in general, although I hope it would be positive.

Look at the impact all the top black players from south florida had on Miami's program in the 80's. it would be the same thing. And while there are some HBCU's that are poorly run all of them are not. I think eventually a HBCU that recruited top players would get top coaches and eventually it would get support. The problem is that it would take several years for a huge impact to be made. I think it could be done but there is no leadership, no ambition. That first recruiting class and even the 2nd may not get to see the team rise to FBS competition but I don't see how it prevents NFL aspirations in todays age. I mean they routinely show high school games on ESPN so why wouldn't they show that team on TV. It would definitely be a huge story and draw attention to that program.

:snoop: sadly its true. we fought so hard to integrate instead of simply out performing those schools by providing the best education.
