this and hobbit are the only movies I care to see, still lukewarm Django, but Dicaprio looks to be a good villian

Yeah it's beginning to look like the front runner for Best Picture at the Oscars.

Reading those reviews it looks like a grip of the reviewers are couching their reviews in a way. Its like they are afraid that audiences will go into expecting something that it is not and then bad word of mouth will spread or something.
It's a lot of:
The ultra-professional result may be easier to respect than enjoy, but there's no denying its power.
A long, challenging film that's also thoroughly gripping, and largely due to its virtuoso climactic sequence, quite the bravura feat of film-making indeed.
Not quite on par with The Hurt Locker in terms of intensity or entertainment value, Zero Dark Thirty eventually finds its footing to become a film with real weight.
Avoids a gung-ho approach in favor of a deeper examination into the back-story of Bin Laden's assassination.
This is as fine a piece of filmmaking as you will see. While many will prefer other types of films, this film hits to all fields in a way that others just don't even try.
It has an integrity to it that is bracing and adult, and it manages to deliver a major visceral experience without ever once bending to Hollywood convention.
Bigelow's commitment to a dispassionate, stripped-down approach results in a film whose impact sneaks up on you, leaving you blindsided by its visceral final reels.

Its a shame that intelligent movie-making needs to have a surgeon's general warning.

Well just looking at the other contenders it seems this is the most likely.

You've got Lincoln which certainly could win but it's hardly had universal praise.

The Master is far too weird to win best picture.

Silver Linings Playbook is definitely one to watch.

ZDT just seems to tick a lot of boxes. It's been compared to All the Presidents Men in how it tackles a very recent historical event. The Oscars is all about playing up to the current zeitgeist We already know Bigalow has an oscar pedigree. Jessica Chastain may very well win best actress. The only problem might be the subject matter being a little too edgy for the Academy.

I dunno..........at this stage I think it's between this and SLP.

It was. shyt was :duck: the whole movie. I watched it wit EOD dudes and we pretty much laughed thru the whole thing. It was entertaining but far from realistic. They laughed the same way fighter pilots laughed at Top Gun...thats why I said that.
