Yunno, The REAL Problem Is That There's No Consensus Criteria For "G.O.A.T."...

....there's no universally agreed-upon CORE tenets that everyone accepts and respects as being fundamental qualifiers for G.O.A.T. status...leaving the masses to instead rationalize their own conclusions in that respect, which is why there's so much disagreement (nevermind that the rationale of some within the masses is devoid of logical or critical reasoning...but that's for another thread).

Like, what is it for you? There are those who ONLY consider lyrical aspects when judging who's the G.O.A.T., while others put a premium on sales moreso than just being lyrical....some would even rest almost exclusively on the "longevity" argument, as well.

Is it even possible for this culture to be of one accord when it comes to this topic?

is it possible there will ever be a universally agreed upon criteria for goat? no.. doesn't need to be really...

however, if you're asking me personally what my criteria is, well.. my criteria is the whole package... lyrics, image, song, longevity, the whole thing.. i don't just want to hear ill rhymes for 5 minutes, those rhymes have to be about something.. and i don't want a cat to spit rhymes that come off as completely unbelievable... and you can't just drop one album that cats think is the blueprint and then nothing else on that level...

That's just it, though...what needs to be checked off on your list may differ from the next man's, so y'all lookin' at each other's lists on some type shyt. I just think it would help to have some basic rules of thumb that everybody could agree on, and it's sad that such criteria was never really established.

It's also unrealistic to ever think it will happen at this point, either.

While the criteria isnt a consenus the GOAT is, and that should say something.

We cant all agree on WHAT makes the GOAT but we can all agree that Pac IS the GOAT, and that my friends is powerful

Nah....I don't see a problem if there are basic tenets within the criteria....because I'm not saying everyone has to all agree on some robotic type shyt, but there should be at least 2-3 things that EVERYBODY can agree on, you know?

For instance....it used to be that, UNIVERSALLY, biting was not accepted. So at one time, biting was a type of core tenet that was understood by anybody who participated in the culture.

That's what I'm getting at, it's not as broad as you're making it seem.

And yes, it's too late practically-speaking to do it, but it would be nice....

There is no consensus for GOAT because people are not robots, the criteria for GOAT is subjective as fukk, and music appeals to people on an emotional level more than it does a logical level. It's not much more complex than that.
