Quick YouTube-related question.

When those Ace vane and other YouTubers put out videos where they take clips from copyrighted animated series and dub over their own original audio, are they still able to monetize the video? I know that some of the creators don't have that many subscribers so they're able to stay under the radar, but others have tons of subscribers and are clearly doing these kinds of videos out in the open.

I know that they can make money from it somehow if they have Patreons that just appreciate the work that they're doing, and will provide them with some steady income on a monthly basis, but are they able to monetize the videos on YouTube? If so, is it because they have altered the video enough that it's now considered like a brand new "work of art"?

probably the latter, if it's altered enough. plus fair use and all that stuff.

I haven't looked into it too much, and I know that some people that upload official episodes do reverse images, change the hue of the image, change the speed of the video, etc. but for the Ace Vane videos, as far as I can tell, the colors are exactly the same, and the speed is exactly the same, but the audio is so different from the original audio that the creator might as well be telling a completely different story (creating a new way to look at the piece of art).

In regards to your fair use comment, I'm not sure how that would apply. I kind of figured that that was only for really old works of art. I'm not sure in what way Justice League, SpongeBob, etc. cartoons would fall into that category.

I guess I see the fair use argument the same way all those YT reviewers who use clips do...but at least in the case of redubbing them, that's actually changing it up, whereas most of the reviewers just show a clip and talk shyt about it.

but I'm no content creator and just guessing shyt

Appreciate the replies. I'll have to look more into the "fair use" thing.

I know this one YouTuber named Misty Chronexia who did a whole bunch of anime reviews would complain sometimes about having copyright issues or having his videos taken down, but if he was just using a clips like other creators do, then I'm not sure what was the potential reason that they were taken down.
