What things in politics really annoy you - whether it be about politics in general, or particular politicians/parties? Mine -

General

-I really hate when politicians/the media involve each other's kids/families - it's really cowardly.

-It really grinds my gears when politicians turn science into a political issue, which unfortunately they've been successful at. Something like, say, climate change shouldn't even be a Dem/Rep thing.

-Hate when politicians/people use vague terms such as "freedom" and "liberty" to describe their views instead of specific policies and try to imply that their opponents are anti- freedom/justice/morals/whatever

Specific

-The Democratic Party in general annoys me, the organization overall is just ridiculously inept and poor at negotiating. Here's how an average Democrat/Republican negotiation goes nowadays -

  • Rep. We want 10.
  • Dem. We can do 5
  • Rep. 10
  • Dem. 7?
  • Rep. We'll come down to 10
  • Dem. ok..8.5!
  • Rep. 10 will do
  • Dem. 9...
  • Rep. getting warmer..
  • Dem. ugh 9.5
  • Rep. Almost there!
  • Dem. 9.8!?
  • Rep....
  • Dem 9.9
  • Rep. Deal.
-When people say "MLK was a Republican"...it's blatantly false but for some reason people still say this all the time and never seem to get called out for it

-I'd be willing to pay a decent amount of money for conservatives/libertarians to actually learn the differences between socialism, communism, Marxism, fascism, and Nazism. Pretty much anyone to the left of Rush Limbaugh gets accused of being one or more of them.

-IMO people on the left tend to be overly paranoid about nuclear energy and GMOs, which is hypocritical if you're going to accuse the other side of being anti-science

-The Republican worship of Ronald Reagan. I remember during the last primaries they literally spend the entire time dikkriding Reagan and talking about what he would do and how much like him they are. :smh:

Man that's a good start. Took most of mine.

-Anybody who uses the word sheeple. It's fukking stupid. I'm all for being condescending but I can't stand this notion that someone (almost always uneducated) is just SOOOO in the know about everything because they read it on in an internet message board.

-I've gotta second the anti-science sentiment. Oh science doesn't work? You think all those 'smarty tarty liberal scientist college professor types' are politically motivated? Cool..... No cancer drugs for you. Toss out your electronics, particularly anything that uses a satellite signal. And don't ever buy anything stronger than aspirin over the counter.

-The phrase 'my words were taken out of context' or 'I didn't mean for it to sound that way' or 'I apologize if I may have INADVERTENTLY offended anyone'. You're a politician; YOU TALK FOR A LIVING! Ya know who can not say thinly veiled racist or sexist or dumb shyt most of the time? Me. And if my simple ass can do your job better than you, we have a problem.

-Anyone involved in the process acting like a child. Sometimes Congress sounds like a Kindergarten classroom.

-And more generally a lack of vision beyond one's next election cycle. Policy carries consequences that last many years into the future. The effect may not be realized in 2 or 4 or 6 years.

People assuming all Republicans are similar to Rush Limbaugh, the entire Fox News cast, the bible thumpers, etc. Those people are generally extremists and there are plenty of rationally minded center leaning Republicans.

Double standards of what liberals can freely say that the rest of us can't without an issue arising from it.

3rd party fanatics thinking they have a realistic shot at office. Sorry, not happening. Some of your ideas are very good and need to be implemented but as a party, y'all will always lose. Oh and you guys preach all day but don't do shyt about it.

Republicans being highly religious irks me. The party accepted too many retarded and zealots into it and is now a joke.

- The term progressive. It implies that they alone want to move forward, and that opponents are against progress.
- Redistribution. You cant "redistribute" something that was never "distributed" to begin with.
- Living wage. As if American making min-wage are literally dropping dead everyday from famine, due in part to a "death wage".
- Women rights, Gay rights, [insert any demographic] rights. Either they are redundant or they are violations of the principle of equal rights for all.
- The completely ridiculous standard, opposition to the status quo is held to.
- The low value placed on foreign lives
- Reaching out to the black community or any community
- Republicans publicly speaking about womens rights.
- Lobbyist being hated instead of the congress that necessitates them.
- Marriage equality being considered a real thing
- People using socialism rather than surrogate decision making or centrally planned, which would cover all variations.
- No one else other than libertarians being seriously/openly interested in auditing the Fed

- Not understanding that Marx actually advocated a stateless society along with advocating a classless and moneyless society.

- Not understanding what a libertarian is. In America, libertarian always exclusively means Anarcho-Capitalists. Not true. There is such a thing as libertarian socialism which downplays the need for a state on most matters but would like to ensure that all labor is owned and divided among all laborers equally (very basic summation on my part here).

- People on the left that think only the Republicans engage in corporatism, cronyism and work at the behest of the rich and powerful. I used to be in this category.

Much more but I'll keep it here for right now.

- Any politician who has no understanding that nothing goes away in social media, but they post dumb shyt anyway
- Politicians who try to talk about sports (unless it deals with a federal case like the whole BALCO thing) even though they've never seen a ballgame in their lives.
- Gratuitous Spanish in campaign speeches. Insultingly patronizing.

(1) As has been demonstrated time again, irrespective of what someone's stance is, I can accept it if it is based on sound reasoning and just disagree on principle grounds. What I cannot accept is someone assuming that the superiority of their position excludes them from abiding by the principles of logic and standards of proof they would use if undermining their opponent's position. I see so many educated people abjure these duties when they are emotionally involved in an issue. If you're not convincing someone like me who is sympathetic to your position, you're not going to convince people who are not. You can't say if A --> B and in many cases when B occurs D occurs thus A ---> D without providing sufficient proof. I just articulated 99% of political arguments.

(2) Ad hominem attacks in lieu of actual arguments. The assumption that someone who disagrees with you has an ulterior and insidious motive without anything to support it. It obscures arguments and actually hinders you from making your as you alienate people who are willing to listen. (Add red herrings in too).

(3) Maximalist demands. I call this the Ralph Nader syndrome and I like Ralph and will never take away from what he did for consumer protection. But the idea that things have to be entirely on your terms or else they are void and worth undermining significant progress for.

(4) Minimal progress masked as a great achievement. It's when individuals compromise to make very little happen but frame it as large-scale progress.

(5) People who must have an opinion about everything and feel that their singular belief perfectly applies to every situation without actually confirming that it does. I'm a big believer in checking one's emotional impulses when you're not as equipped with the facts as you'd normally like to be and when your response is based more on general historical grievances than problem-specific issues. "Better to remain quiet and let people think you are a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

(6) The sub-forum name Free Speech. I still want it to be called Politically Incorrect. Support my endeavor

The whole climate change "debate" and the inability of people to take it seriously really drives me nuts. Why is this even a political issue?

From a scientific perspective shyt is already settled, there is no "debate" about whether it's real. Hell, it's already happening. Literally, it's our kids/grandkids futures on the line yet this somehow got turned into some stupid liberal/conservative issue where people just ride with whatever side they're on.

Every time somebody starts talking about how climate change is a hoax or it's still debatable I have a huge urge to reach through my monitor and smack them.

This, but with evolution.
