YOUNG DOLPH SIGNS PARTNERSHIP WITH EMPIRE & ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM ‘ROLE MODEL’
MOCLASSIFIED

SEPTEMBER 4, 2018
Just last week we reported that Young Dolph turned down a $22 million deal choosing to remain independent. But, oh what a difference a week makes!

Young Dolph has since signed a multi-million dollar partnership deal with Empire that supposedly has the potential to grow to 8 figures over the course of the deal’s lifetime. As far as why he felt the Empire partnership was a good idea, Dolph explained:

“The deals I was being offered, I can’t lie, they were good. Not only is this still a multi-million dollar deal, but I can keep my masters and get a bigger percentage,” he said. “This is a big deal because it’s linking the biggest independent artist and label with the biggest distribution company.”

:ehh:

I'm VERY curious about the set up of the deal. Streaming is where it's at, digital distribution is (practically) free.. what advantage is there for him to do this?
Assuming this is a deal with a signing bonus he never has to pay back, and incentives (a higher % of profit when he sells x albums)..

Is Tyga first Empire artist to be getting radio play? XXXTencaion was big when it came to streaming, but his music didn't get played on the radio.

nah Rich Homie Quan did very well with "FLEX' and a number of artists have had single deals with Empire such as Fat joe and Remy ma with "all the way up" and Kendrick first singles and lp Section 80 were released on empire before they secured the Interscope situation

streaming is NOT where it's at for most independent artists...

the major streaming service platforms such as Spotify , Deezer , Apple 1 and even Tidal don't really give you the push you feel you deserve if you don't have a strong catalog or are not a priority with your digital aggregator (distributor) tunecore or ingrooves

for example i had an artist that was on tunecore the same time Nipsey had just gotten there......and the push they gave nipsey was to be expected because he came with a catalog and his own big budget and star power to match....

we weren't on the same playing field thier is levels to this shyt...

i found out very quickly that i had to have some deep pockets to promote and market my artist to even think about airplay...

and the fees associated with the digital aggregators distributing your product to the steaming services wasn't cheap if you wanted that first class treatment..(multiple streaming platforms...youtube...itunes....global publishing administration) :patrice:

it's just as POLITICAL dawg........

because the digital aggregators act just like major labels ....because most of em are tied in with major labels just like the streaming services are partly owned by the majors

for example the founder of Empire Distribution is a former Ingrooves executive......

and when i was on tunecore with my artists they just got subsidized by Universal records

it ain't easy..if it was then everybody would be able to do it....as opposed to signing with a major

so salute to dolph....cause it takes hard hard work
