I've always loved when serial/drama shows contained young recurring characters. It helps switch things up every now and then add a variety of other elements to the television show. For instance comedy, nostalgia, the theme of coming of age, education and also being able to relate to the younger characters because you're one yourself.

Now I aint talking about TV shows like Boy Meets World, or Freaks and Geeks where the cast is based upon the younger characters...

But a perfect example of this is The Wire. Growing up in highschool watching this and seeing Bodie, Wallace, and Michael made the TV show that much better. I'm watching episode 2 season one right now even, and just sseeing these nikkas talk about McDonald's nuggets...and then DAngelo start to school em...I dunno. I just like that kinda stuff in shows.

What are some of your favourite youngn's in TV shows?

Most times I hate young recurring characters in tv shows...Mad Men and Dexter come to mind. Kids just become added obstacles to work around without adding much if any substance to the story way too often.
