Two part thesis:
A) I've always been a high BMI guy, and my parents raised me thinking I got to eat to stay big. More or less been around 230 about 15-18% body fat with a 3-4 meal a day diet, basically your average barrel chested type dude, I could rock a muscle shirt, but I had fat in the lats and belly. Lately to gain a more lean athletic look I started running more and eating less. It's been about 1 year now, I've realized I've cut down subconsciously to about 1.5-2 meals a day (sometimes just 1) and I am 210 solid. No I'm not bulemic, or anorexic. And I feel so much more energized, and a lot lighter. I now regularly sleep 5 hour nights with no problem. I've come to the personal conclusion that I never needed that much food. Pop in and drop your thoughts, but I think regular meals are overrated. Eat something to keep the calories burning and keep it moving. I'm not gonna lie, it was a b*tch at first, because you get CRAVINGs. Huge difference between a craving and actually being hungry, and it took me 2 months to learn the difference, and those first 2 weeks had me tossing around in bed and sh*t.
My personal eating rules:
Heaviest meal at midday
Light meal latest 8PM
I do eat fruit in the morning sometimes, but I don't count an orange or a banana as a meal. I think the main thing is being active. The more active I am, the less I think about food or eating. Is this a rare or a common thing?
