I know this is super speculative, but humans rarely leave technology in the places that primates congregate, which means they have to get smart the slow, old fashioned way.


But think about how we keep dropping cargo ships , naval vessels, and scientific research ships right into the ocean. How long before a few curious dolphins , orcas , or squids start playing around with that stuff? Its an academic shortcut. A lost naval or research ship would be like giving a caveman a trebuchet or hot air baloon to play around with.
