SEE TLDR for ADHD explanation.
Crazy you say? Clickbait you say? Well, hear me out and judge for yourself.
Almost a decade ago, after suffering a number of embarrassing but ultimately superficial setbacks, Matt Hardy seemed to suddenly discover that he was rich, white, and still had many marketable years of wrestling left in him. Unfortunately for Matt, such a change in fortunes took a toll on his mind. Such mental whiplash left him in a fragile state emotionally and after a loss to his brother (or someone I don't remember), he "broke."
Many years of entertaining mental illness were to follow. Along with his newfound mental illness came a suite of supernatural abilities; the most relevant to the issue at hand being enchantment of land, property, and inanimate objects, particularly the Lake of Reincarnation.
Matt Hardy eventually returned to the WWE and despite being eventually granted ownership of his "Broken" powers he was also gifted lesser "Woken" powers. While these would be of little use to Matt they would be a boon for one Bray Wyatt; a failed would be cult leader and eater of pins.
Wyatt and Hardy began a feud that began and would end in nonsense. Of course Wyatt lost the feud and as a result ended up in the Lake of Reincarnation.
It is important to note that the Lake of Reincarnation is broken as well as breaks. If you remember, Broken Matt was never really a good person, just a mentally ill version of Big Money Matt. At best he was a chaotic neutral. Thus his Lake of Reincarnation wasn't a true rebirth, just a broken and twisted reimangining which is how we went from "Good" Bray Wyatt, willing tag partner of former foe Matt Hardy to "Good" Sweater Bray Wyatt, children's public access TV show host and willing vessel of the Fiend.
The Lake of Reincarnation also "broke" Bray Wyatt's many personalities and voices. Instead of being a confusing mess of an individual, they were unique identities that could be summoned and manifested at will.
The Lake of Reincarnation's "woken" aspect resulted in the awakening of the latent Fiend persona. Combined with the splintering of his personalities and twisted interpretation of "wholesomeness" and spokesvessel for the Fiend as Sweater Bray this has caused a lot of issues within WWE including......
-At least three family/domestic issues, two of which are still ongoing.
-The concluded issue resulted in that party becoming so traumatized he reunited with a friend and sleazebag and ruined another superstar's life costing them their friend, their tag team, their championship opportunity and their hot girlfriend.
-Scaring a wrestler so bad that they reimagined themselves as a false prophet with only one consistent disciple who has been abused so much that he has begun a questionable relationship with a young woman to seek solace.
-Those who encountered and challenged this false prophet have suffered grotesque eye injuries, vision loss, long term injuries, job reassignments, job losses, or a combination of these consequences.
-Braun Stroman firmly cemented as a person only a prime Big Show, Kane, or Mark Henry would be proud of.
-Alexa Bliss becoming a skinny goth who abandoned her friend.
-The miseducation of Jay Uso by his cousin Roman Reigns leading to more issues for Daniel Bryan.
-The literal disappearance of John Cena.
Just off the top of my head. Not only that, Hardy was still around when the Fiend first surfaced but chose not to intervene, instead choosing to intentionally draw the ire of the violently unstable Randy Orton and get a one way ticket out of dodge.
Basically what Matt Hardy did was lay a literal silent but deadly fart in the small, enclosed space that is the WWE and then allow everyone else (including his own brother) to risk the potential consequences.
AEW really better be mindful. Particularly since he's already bumped his head once. No telling what he has in store for them now. If they need a cautionary tale just look at the wasteland of dysfunctional misery that is the WWE.
TLDR; Matt Hardy is responsible for the Fiend because he threw Bray Wyatt into the Lake of Reincarnation. The issues that have resulted from his presence in the WWE can be traced directly to Hardy's broken mental state.
