I keep hearing that he's one of the great directors to come out of Europe, but his shyt don't hold up... From what Ive seen, his work is way too self indulgent and pretentious. Im not his shyt is completely wack.. the cinematography and editing is top tier... but the overall product falls flat

Take breathless He created an ode to american film, but that shyt comes off as mad pretentious :francis:


Plus the romantic scenes drag on.

Trouffuat is dope...Herzog... Tarkovsky was a Kubrick eschew genius...

But Godard? :childplease:

@ThaRealness i think godards best movies are the ones where he uses color, especially le mepris and pierrot le fou. his color theory is always on point and it really elevates them. especially pierrot le fou i think is his peak as a director and a top film.

and part of his reputation too is also from the more self-referential parts of his film-making that not everyone really likes.
