That was actually what I had in mind when posting that comment. After OKC the feds came down very hard on the militia movement. Those people started coming back slowly once Obama got elected but en masse after trump.
Feds did the same thing with the KKK. Only a few generations ago they were powerful enough to march into DC by the thousands.

I actually have correspondence over many years with a retired historian that studied pre-Nazi Germany. For years he told me he wasn't concerned and believed US institutions were strong. This year, based largely on the Jan 6 and election denialism, he admitted for the first time he was scared. Crazy times.
