I thought this was gonna be about the Arrow Root sample lol...

Never really thought about this until a few years ago but I wonder how far away we are from jazz being erased from the black experience. In nearly every major city in America you will find large groups of older black people going to jazz festival shows. Or seeing artists like Kem play with a jazz band. There are black people in their 40s-50s going to these but a whole lot are in their 60s or older. Is there going to be another generation of black people in their 40s/50s in a decade who care about jazz shows? I don't see it man. We're getting so far into this meta of people listening to one genre, only listening to music that came out in the last 2-3 years, and having zero interest in learning anything.

My parents go to the shows every Friday downtown. My barber does too.

Detroit has many jazz clubs, Bakers, Cliff Bells, The Dirty Dog, even a gospel jazz club on Livernois, and a radio station that plays every night WRCJ I think

Yup that's where my parents are lol. After Wayne Shorter died a couple years ago I just wandered from club to club taking in tributes and amazing shows of his music. So I've been there many times and while I can't say I'm the only young person there, it's def not many of us percentage wise.

The lady who owned cathartic recently passed and she single handedly did the Detroit Jazz Fest. Carhartt company has always supported and donated to all kinds of music causes.

But you gotta go to Bakers on Saturday nights and Dirty Dog on the weekdays and Cliff Bells on a date night… it’s nothing like it.

Reckon some of our generation will turn to that to and will replace the older folk. Once you advance in age the less youre gonna listen to rap music. The cursing for example loses its entertainment value. At this point id rather listen to the intrumental version of Dre's 2001, the lyrics are so over the top that it takes away more than it adds with some tracks.

Anyway i could see people transitioning to jazz in time, will still be a niche type of affair but wont disappear.

Personaly got into Grant Green from hip hop sampling so theres hope
