It really does feel kinda like a throwback to the 90s

I don’t even think it’s throwback, but if you’re gonna go that way I think you have to talk 70s more than 90s. 90s sitcoms were generally more happy go lucky with a touch of love stories and will they won’t they’s.

70s sitcoms (and Mom) are more about laughs but then long stretches of pathos and reality. I haven’t seen a ton of Good Times, but from what I’ve seen it was funny, but then there’d be whole scenes or episodes about education or being black or aspiring for more. In Mom those scenes are the ones about addiction and falling off the wagon etc.

I can’t imagine a 90s sitcom that would have a character whose been sober for 5-10 years get hooked on prescription pills and fukk everything up but I imagine a 70s sitcom would.

One of my favorite shows on television. Coli really doesn't like multi-cams and I admit the majority are absolute dreck, but MOM is a genuinely good show and Allison Janney's closet full of Emmy's for it, are well deserved. Show gets really cooking around episode 6 and since then I watch it faithfully.

When it comes to TV sometimes this place can be like that 90s/early 00s cliche of people who say they don't have a TV and read books (I was a kid in the 90s but it's a cliche I see a lot on TV :russ:)

People just assume anything not on Premium Cable is trash.
People assume anything on Premium Cable or Netflix is better. it isn't. If Mom was on Netflix maybe outside GLOW it would be one of their best and funniest half-hour shows.
Truly good TV gets posted/talked about less than C+/B- populous stuff that is actually as formulaic and generic as the Network stuff they look down on.
If there're titties and/or cursing people overlook the basic-ness of the stories, acting and production value.

I feel the same way about Madam Secretary. A well-written show with a good cast. Ratings are trash. I love political shows though. It has had more good episodes than House of Cards, which never should have happened.

If I was into political shows I’d check it out but I haven’t seen Secretary or HoC.
