"There are also quite a number of other design aspects and requirements that we put in around things like latency, steady frame-rates and that the titles aren't interrupted by the system and other things like that. You'll see this very much as a pervasive ongoing theme in our system design."

:dead: :dead: :dead: Microsoft has a good PR team for XBox.

I'm not worried about why as much as them stating that it would be 1080p and then its not.

Great article... I won't be buying it at launch... maybe if I lived in Europe.

so why is ryse 900p?

The Roman Esram-trick
Microsoft's head of game studios, Aaron Greenberg, has announced that the exclusive title Ryse on the Xbox One in 1,600 x 900 pixels and is calculated runs with 30 fps. Through this resolution, which fits exactly into the Xbox Esram One of the excellent graphics Ryse is possible.

DISPLAY
Aaron Greenberg via Twitter some information about two upcoming exclusive titles for the Xbox One published , precisely for Ryse - Son of Rome and Forza Motorsport 5 In Ryse , the next game from Crytek, the resolution is 1,600 x 900 pixels significantly below full HD, but the Xbox one scales the image up to 1080p. While this reduces the visual quality somewhat, but this particular resolution provides developers with the opportunity to upgrade the look of Ryse visible because more computation time for effects is available. In the same vein beat the 30 frames per second, which are for a frame 33.3 milliseconds of computing time available that Crytek may invest in a nicer graphics.

G-buffer effects from the Esram
Return to Rome: a video showing how Autodesk end of August 2013, Ryse is a technical feat, especially in the area of characters and environments. Thus, the character of Marius Titus rich 150.000 triangles, called performance capture gives 770 moving parts to life, of which 260 alone in the face, which has a real frightening facial expressions. Marius' clothes, including the armor deforms dynamically movements - especially in fighting - and the environment is decomposed impressively during the missions. Also, the game uses including tessellation, illuminated particles, soft shadows and more complex shader calculations.

For example, Ryse, Crytek offers for as usual, an enormous amount of post processing effects, most of which are derived from a so-called deferred renderer from a buffer called the G-Buffer. The mentioned 1,600 x 900 pixels along with G-buffer still fit differently than 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, we estimate the32 MB Esram the Xbox One , a small, but extremely fast memory on the graphics core can access. Microsoft gives around 200 GB per second than read and write rate, which is slightly less than 300 euro expensive than a GeForce GTX 770 is available - although this has 2 GB of GDDR5 memory, and not only 32 MB.

To choose a slightly lower resolution in order to squeeze the buffer memory in a very brisk, but is not new: Battlefield 3 on the Xbox 360 only uses a resolution of 1,152 x 720 pixels to the 10 MB can be used EDRAM optimal. In the case of the optical Ryse result of this trick excellent, although it does not take Crytek to create all the press pictures in extremely high resolution - that's in the games industry but common.

The aforementioned racing game Forza Motorsport 5 to calculate the Xbox One at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels at 60 fps, which is the best resolution for a typical 1080p TV because does not have to be interpolated. The high frame rate allows a more precise despite a gamepad, because faster control - which is very important in order to steer the vehicles can clean with a title like Forza. Ryse looks as opulent as the racing game after the previous material but not out.

some interesting stuff about scalability and cpu bottlenecks. why did both companies go with a weak 8 core cpu, when it seems like most games are still largely single threaded?

I think the cpu might be the bottle neck this gen.
