It means nothing. Microsoft is the MVP of creative accounting. I look forward to COD dying its long overdue death in the next few years.
If anything given the way Activision was running COD Microsoft might save it. Microsoft would have let the current game be DLC and skipped a year because they aren't as dependent on COD as Activision alone was.

Why would they skip a year of COD and risk making it irrelevant during the haitus?

Assassin's Creed skips years all the time now and it's not irrelevant. The devs didn't have a quality game ready and needed that extra time.
