He should have stayed on Smackdown with Finlay and those guys. I don't even remember what happened but all of a sudden he's winning the ECW EC :mindblown:

Went from curtainjerker/midcarder on Smackdown to the main angle of Wrestlemania in a 6 month span. I thought he had potential but his company push was so obvious that even the markiest fans couldn't take him serious. Vince put the nikka over pretty much every week even had me believe he would take the WWE strap from Cena at one point.

The angle , Benoit , rvd stuff hurt the most I think . I enjoyed the show , the whole will punk join new blood stuff too , Kelly Kelly stripping , Ariel etc
But edge should of been put on there his character fit or maybe even Jeff .
Not to mention wwe gave it their typical second class citizen treatment And the fans pick up on it

Heyman was 100% right in wanting to push Punk hard after Survivor Series that year. Punk, a newbie in the E, outpopped DX AND The Hardyz (with Jeff in it who is one of the most over guys at the time and eventually became THE most over guy in the company on par with Cena if not more over) that night. They should have capitalized and donned him as the second coming so the casual mainstream fans that were slowly catching on would have jumped on board.

Real talk in retrospect nothing about Lashley winning or the entire PPV for that matter benefited any of the stars or the company.

Benoit didn't kill the new ECW imo. It was never going to be "ECW", but it was a good wrestling show the first few months to me. Sabu was killing it, and RVD/Angle/Show in the main events, hot crowds, simple but well-built main events without resorting to clichés.

It started falling off after Angle left but was still a pretty good show imo. December to Dismember, as bad as it was, was built up OK. I remember being kind of hype for the Elimination Chamber. After that show flopped, it was clear that the show was only going downhill, and it was only watchable at best for the rest of its run.

Sick match from New ECW's good run:
