WWE lawsuit settled with Martha Hart concerning Owen Hart's likeness - Oklahoma City Pro Wrestling | Examiner.com

The WWE lawsuit with Martha Hart, the widow of the late Owen Hart, has finally been settled. According to Rajah.com on April 3, the two sides finally came to an agreement on the royalties concerning using Owen's image.

The WWE lawsuit settlement was announced by Martha Hart, Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon on Wednesday. No details were revealed but it appears that the WWE will once again be able to use Owen Hart's likeness for future projects and will compensate Martha for the usage.

Owen Hart died in a tragic accident in 1999 at a WWE pay-per-view. He was portraying a superhero character known as the Blue Blazer and was repelling from the ceiling into the ring when the bungee slipped and he fell to the ring, hitting his head on the corner buckle and dying from a broken neck.

The relationship between the Hart family and the WWE fractured after that. Bret Hart, Owen's brother, was already on the outs with Vince McMahon and this only fuelled his hatred even further. Bret and Vince eventually buried the hatchet a decade later and Bret now makes occasional legends appearances in the WWE.

However, the WWE lawsuit filed by Martha Hart was full of venom and has not lessened in the last decade.

The WWE lawsuit was in place to keep the WWE from making any money off Owen Hart's name or likeness, which Martha Hart gained the rights through after his death. This has caused, among other things, to keep Owen Hart out of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Glad it's over with. Hopefully we can see Owen in the hall sooner rather than later.

I wouldn't be surprised if Triple H played a part in getting the Martha Hart/WWE lawsuit settled.

He broke bread with Bruno to get him into the HOF, why not this? :manny:

Owen Hart was a great heel. From being the jealous little brother to the Stone Cold feud to the Hart Foundation/DX fued.

He was pretty good on the mic as well. They better get that Hall of Fame induction next year

I was only 6 and had been watching wrestling for two years when Owen died, so I couldn't comprehend the emotional impact of his death. However, I fully understood that and related to that fully when Eddie Guerrero died. :to:: :sadcam: :sadbron:

Hopefully this leads to peace and closure for all parties involved. Martha was well within her rights to be anti WWE or their involvement. Now his kids and family can see his career celebrated by his fans and peers because from all accounts Owen was loved.

Owen, Jake the Snake, and Scott Hall in the same HOF class would be great.

Hopefully DDP can continue to work his magic on the rehab front.
