In an exclusive press conference that took place earlier this evening, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that WrestleMania 29, WWE's marquee event, has been canceled amid controversy of the matches being fixed. Vince was joined by Executive Vice President of Creative Stephanie McMahon, her husband, Executive Vice President of Live Events and Talent Paul Levesque aka Triple H, and Chief Financial Officer George Barrios.
This development comes as a major surprise to most senior officials as well as the millions of WWE fans worldwide who looked forward to attending WrestleMania 29 at MetLife Stadium this coming Sunday. However, it is being rumored that Vince McMahon has been under investigation for several years by a number of state athletic commissions as well as federal offices regarding match-fixing at least since scrapped plans for wrestler Chris Benoit in WWE's (now defunct) Extreme Championship Wrestling were made public in 2007.
With the recent cancellation of the event which included a partnership with recording artist Diddy, Wrestlemania Axxxess activities, and headlined by WWE Champion the Rock vs John Cena for the WWE Championship, WWE as well as the Metlife Group accommodating WrestleMania stands to lose between 30 and 50 million dollars based on early projections.
Vince McMahon is expected to make a public announcement regarding WrestleMania on tomorrow's Monday Night Raw on the USA Network.
