Would you rather root for a team that's unpredictable (championship caliber or complete ass) or one that's consistently underwhelming?

Unpredictable teams -

Very inconsistent from year to year. They can be competing for championships one year and being average to absolutely abysmal the next year. You get the great highs and some pretty bad lows and you have no idea what you're gonna get.


I'm talking Florida State, Miami Heat, Michigan State, TCU type teams.


Consistently underwhelming teams -

Always coming in with high expectations but never live up to them. People look back on them and lament the lost opportunities they had. You're never truly "ass" or even "bad" but you aren't going to feel the joy of seeing your team win a championship or even have a genuine chance.

Penn State, the 76ers, the Cowboys every year, Notre Dame, Dame era Portland Trailblazers

Unpredictable. I'm not sure if the Heat qualify though as they're in the playoff mix every year pretty much.

They're in the mix but they went from the Finals in 2020, to getting swept in the 1st round in 2021, 1st seed in the conference in 2022, play-in to Finals in 2023 and gentleman's swept in 2024.

I know injuries factor in, but that's a roller coaster.

Being a Sacramento Kings fan during the playoff drought is something I never want to witness again.

Most if not all teams have windows that open and close.

The unpredictable teams realize when their window is closed and start over. While other teams always think the window is cracked open, but was always closed.

And some teams only care about their balance sheet. If they’re making a profit despite losing, that’s success to them.
