Let's say you're a pro wrestler and you get to choose between :

- Being the longest reigning Intercontinental champion of all time with a lot of title defenses, classic matches, classic feuds.
And the record stands for as long as you like.
But you never become WWE or world champion of any kind.

- Being a one time transitional WWE Champion, title reign last for about a month or two with no more than one successful title defense. You can win some other midcard titles but not any other world championship.

What choice do you make ?

the way OP laid it out, you're not just longest reigning IC champ, but endless classic matches and feuds? and can hold the belt for as long as you like, so that when I finally drop it, it's a HUGE deal?

same way i'd rather be a classic character on long running tv show than be the title character on a show that gets cancelled after the pilot and never hit syndication.

When i said that the record would stand for as long as you like i meant when he was going to get broken by someone else.
Could be never or after you're dead or in ten years, your choice.

Maybe you dont choose how long you're gonna stay champ. But since the current record is 454 days, its gonna be more than that and its really enough to have tons of great matches and feuds.

Both World Champs. In fact Steamboats reign lasted 55 days longer than Koloff's did, while Perfect held the AWA title for over a year
