simple question:
knowing all we know about the pitfalls of CTE and the guaranteed money for that may be available in other sports, would you be OK with your son putting on a helmet and pushing him towards a life of football as he grew older??

It's crazy you made this thread cause I was JUST reading this story and thinking "no way in hell my son plays football":
Kurt Coleman's unbreakable bond with the teammate he paralyzed

Dude was WR on the Buckeye Scout team and has a routine play with Kurt Coleman at practice that doesn't look out of the ordinary or anything, and now he can't move anything below his neck for the rest of his life.:mjcry:

I always wanted my son to play football and debate my friends who said they wouldn't let their kids play.

But now Ive come around...between the concussions, the paralyzation, the DEATHS on the field of high school students playing i can't let my lil man do it.

Baseball,Soccer, Basketball will be his sports.

No, and not only for the health risks, thought that's a big part of it.

I only played through high school but fukk football. That shyt takes up entirely too much time.

That said, I'm not going to tell them no. If they want to, fine. I'm not encouraging it though.

No way, I care about my kid. The damage from CTE is too severe of a risk to place on someone I love.

my middle son was for a while, he was built for it since he was itty bitty even tho he was never itty bitty, he played pop warner n then middle school on up to high school he was playing for richardson berkner for a while, but then his mothers mental difficulties developed in him,n he ended up getting kicked off the team cuz he got locked up for a year then i later found out quite a few scouts were interested in him up until he started getting trouble with the law....

i liked him play football tho cuz it channeled alot of energy he had, it gave him something good n positive to do with all that rage he had inside

This thread has been done 10 times and I've only been on the coli for a few months. Short answer, yes. My oldest son is 11 and he was FB obsessed since he could walk. Played tackle starting at 7 and quite honestly has always been the best player on his team and in his league. I held him out last year for a few reasons but he wants to play again next year. I've coached youth and HS FB and believe its a safer game than it's ever been as a kid can't have a headache without being sat out and sent to a dr these days and there's less hitting (and safer techniques) than in the past. That said I've never pushed him to play and truthfully as great of an athlete as he is I'm about to make him play baseball this summer. If you're going to push your kid to a sport baseball is where the life changing money is, not FB

:yeshrug: Yea I would let my son play. I'm not pushing him to play any sports. If he wants to he can play. Dudes keep bringing up the money in these sports like they just want these kids to play to be there meal ticket

I voted yes. Even though my mom hated me out there she let me play - and I fukking hated it. I played for one year in 5th grade. Took a headshot from some 200lb kid (mind you I was probably 120lbs) and that was a wrap. Had a legit concussion and I was still in elementary school.

Ended up sticking with baseball until college based on that moment. :manny:
