Would employers hire you if you lacked the required experience but could perform the job?

I ask because I recently obtained my A+ certification but a lot of companies seem to require 2 years or more of hands on experience. I'm thinking if I could at least make it the interview process I'll be ok. I've gotten a few calls from temporary jobs but I'm full time right now (in different field other than IT) and I just can't see myself leaving this job to work as a temp, although I will gain valuable experience doing so. So i ask, when you got hired (or know of someone), did they just use their degree/cert to get in even though they didn't have the required years experience listed on the job posting?

u need experience and the ability to sell yourself. I def don't fukk w people with no experience... at least some other job, even if it's not the same, that demonstrates transferable skills.

a cert or degree shows nothing - unless it's some amazing shyt or some field that everyone enters entry level. But if u managed some stuff and have some independent work your good.

but mainly selling urself and being confident.

If u know what you're doing just lie about experience.

fukk HR and fukk hiring managers. You act like people can pick and choose which jobs are willing to give people a chance and which ones won't. A simple assessment test could easily weed out all applicants.

If you do internships related to your field in college it will count as "experience" toward the full time job you want when you are done.

All of my friends that did internships while in college had a job lined up for when they graduated or had one within a year, including myself.

Everyone I know who did not do some sort of internship related to their field in school are still jobless right now.

Companies want people who have hands-on, real life experience. Not just people who can regurgitate information they read in a text book, who they then have to teach everything to.

Well, usually, the liars will get filtered out during the interviews. The job market is a bit different these days, and employers and managers have experienced hiring people who ended up not being able to produce, kind of like the Tim Tebow of IT.

depends on the company. Some companies value paper more than experience. Some don't mind either way. BUT consider someone looking at resumes.
They get your resume with schooling but no experience then;
They get someone else's with schooling AND experience.

Your resume shows up slumpy.

A lot of times though, you can sell yourself in an interview, I was always good at that, matter of fact first real accounting job I got I got because I sold myself. The dude WITH experience was hired before me, the hiring manager told me I was #2 and she liked me but the GM told her to go with experience. 3 months later and the hiring manager called me and was like, "you still in the market?" Turns out i spent the next 6 months cleaning up what dude with "experience" managed to fuk up in just 3 months.

Depends on the other candidates applying for the job, but generally employers will take someone with experience over someone with none. Though a cert is a good start and will help you at least not get your resume tossed.

You may have to start a little lower - my first IT job was as a call center Tech Support Rep for an ISP, paid $10/hr. Was an annoying job sometimes but I was able to use that experience to eventually land better jobs. Didn't have any certs at the time, but I was in college (with an IT-related major) and aced the interview.

So my suggestion is to hit up Comcast, AT&T, Cox, Verizon, or any other Internet providers that have a call center in your area and see if they're hiring, those are the easiest places to get into w/no experience. I've heard that Comcast starts Tech Support Reps at $13.50/hr + benefits (even though the job might be a pain) so you may want to check them out. Maybe work someplace like that for a year and then sell the experience to another employer.

Only other way to get in is to know the right person. :yeshrug:
