It seems to work for Switzerland and with the ineptness of our current federal government, do you think a direct democracy would work in the U.S. or be a better alternative?

We never have a truly great turnout for elections, but perhaps more people would be interested if they were engaged directly and their choices actually did influence change. Especially since all these polls show what Americans want or care about, yet Congress goes the other way on a regular basis.

The way the democracy was set up some 200 years ago was the perfect form of government. But as time went, it needed to be tweaked to adapt with the changing times. But since that never happened, different groups started using it to their own advantage which corrupted what it was originally meant to be. :manny:

Now its too late to go back :heh:

can't work here. the US is run by corporations. ppl turn to media to figure out how and what to think. those corporations fund the media through commercials. those corporations fund and buy elections and back laws that support them. bottom-line is there's really no way america can unwind itself from this mess.
