The other night, I got drunk and started ranting about how Wolf Children is almost an exact retelling of single mothers raising their mixed children on their own.
I don't remember all the points I made, but here are a few....(they're crazy. I had a 40 of Colt 45 and a ton of other stuff)
-The father, a black man, comes from a different culture than the mother, one that she was probably told to fear
-He is killed in the streets, because he may have been misunderstood or targeted, while attempting to provide for his family
-He and others like him are forced to assimilate into the dominate culture
-The children are forced to assimilate into the dominate culture and are warned not to show their true colors (just like black children are taught to be wary of white culture)
-As the children get older, one chooses to get more familiar with his father's heritage, his ethnic background, while the other wants to assimilate into the dominate culture
-The mother is forced to hide her children from the community, because mixed children are often targets of ridicule of those with prejudices in their heart
....Like I said...it was crazy. And I was very drunk.
Wolf Children is an amazing film though.
