WBA/IBO/WBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko says division veteran Shannon Briggs, 42-years-old, has crossed "a dangerous line" with last week's stunt in Florida. Briggs used a rented speedboat to continue his pursuit of a title shot. He shouted obscenities and used the boat to circle around Klitschko, who was paddle surfing in a lake. Klitschko says Briggs' boat came dangerously close to him.
Briggs has practically been stalking Klitschko for a fight, by showing up unexpectedly at press events, confronting the champion at a restaurant and during training sessions. The public stunts have been so shocking that many have questioned if the entire situation is actually being staged between the two boxers to build up a future fight.
At first Klitschko found it amusing but he is no longer laughing.
"He's crazy. His attack was much worse than it looked in the video. He was circling around and came very close to making fall over in the water. I have not reported Briggs [to the police], but he has crossed a dangerous line. It is no longer a joke," Klitschko was quoted by Fox Deportes.
Klitschko defends his title next month against mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev
