With the exception of the first one, the POTC movies have not aged well. At all.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Seriously fukk that franchise as whole. There's some shyt that you liked when you were younger that you look back on when you're older and you wonder why the hell you ever liked it to begin with.

That first movie was alright. It was a fun movie and gave us an iconic performance from Johnny Depp, but after that the series just went :scusthov:. In DMC, which I hated to begin with, everything that was likeable about the Jack Sparrow character went out the door (the dude leaves his friend to die, recruits a bunch of people with the sole purpose to have them die, and then almost abandons his friends again and leaves them to die at the end). I could give a fukk about that Orlando-Kiera relationship. Completely awful. It was like a season of a bad television show condensed to 3 hours. I actually like #3 for awhile, but on rewatch, it got worse- beginning, middle, and end, it's just an impressively bad film. All the opening crap in Asia, Jack in purgatory, flipping the ship upside down, the 9 Pieces of 8 meeting, all of the unintelligible double-crosses, the ridiculously long final battle, the pointlessly tragic ending. Christ, what an awful film. 2 & 3 started filming w/o a finished script and you sure as hell can tell. Barbossa, the villain in the first one, actually turned out to be the most honorable character through out the entire series.

I never even bothered fukking with the fourth one. But I see it made some money so there will be a fifth one eventually. :snoop: That's how Hollywood rolls. Johnny Depp probably knows this film series is bullshyt to but it buys him a new house and a new yacht so he's probably like :myman: when they ask to do another one.

:mindblown: Why the fukk did I like this series again? I've never seen a series obtain more goodwill and popularity due to the quality of just the first film.

Who's with me and who disagrees?

Pretty much stating the obvious bruh.

The first movie is still an enjoyably fun film, they took everything that was enjoyable about the first and flushed it down the toilet. In the first film the Will/Elizabeth relationship was fully fleshed out and reached its proper conclusion, there was ZERO need for a forced love triangle involving Jack. Also they switched Jack from charming rogue to treacherous a$$hole, kept adding needless characters, and made the plot too goddamn convoluted. Its Pirates Of The Caribbean not The fukking Matrix and MY GOD did they make them too fukking long. The second one especially goes on a good 30 minutes or so longer than it has too.

All in all it was NEVER meant to be a franchise. They put it all on the table with the first movie and never expected it to be as successful as it became, then they forced a mythology and needless plot on the sequels.

Never saw the fourth one and have no desire too

Nah. #1 is great, #2 is good and #3 is ok. The cliffhanger at the end #2 is the best cliffhanger I've see in a movie

The first one is bomb and prob one of my favorite Johnny Depp performances of all time, hell even had a thing for stringbean ass Keira Knightly. But I agree the rest were trash and too long, I have also not seen the 4th one even turn it off when I see it on cable...that running time:wtf:

This brings up something else today...why are movies so god damn long? Hell The Dark Knight should of ended at one particular point to me...yet it went on for another hour?:why:

Pirates 3 was so god damn long, I had to take like 2 piss breaks:dead:

I agree that too many movies are way too long. It only works with flicks that have really good stories and characters you might actually care about. These action movies are way too long, damn transformer sequels were both about 45 mins too long. Potc I can't sit through no 3 hr pirate movie. TDK was good but they tried to cram a bunch of shyt into one movie kinda keeps the movie from flowing just right.

I love a long epic but not when it dragged out on purpose with no substance.

So everyone's pretty much in agreement that the first movie still holds up as a really great movie.

You could explain Jack not being likable and Barbosa turning his act around on being a pirate and character development, respectively.

Personally though, I don't even remember the sequels all too well. Alls I know is that one of them didn't have Keira and Orlando and seemed forced. It really shouldn't have been a franchise but it makes way too much money not to keep going.

And personally, I think Johnny Depp is just happy to get away from Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter sometimes.

I dont think part 1 is a great movie, it was just fresh and johnny depp got all kinds of praise for his overrated drunk, gay pirate portrayal.

Kids love it though.

But you see its not really character development to make Jack Sparrow an a$$hole like that. In the first movie it was established that he was a mischievous, cunning, rogue. But Orlando Bloom sacrificing everything to help him escape at the end of the first movie, only THEN to make Jack turn on him, set him up to die, and take his woman in the second movie is out of the established character arc.

Barboosa is more easily explainable as his rivalry with Jack stems from wanting ownership of the Black Pearl, its not personal with Barboossa, its just business. Those two will spend eternity trying to come up each other, but In a way, they realize they NEED each other, its a Pirates Yin and Yang..

And if Depp wanted to get away from Button he wouldn't do so many Goddamn movies with him, its not like any of their collaborations besides Alice In Wonderland lit the Box Office on fore or were critical masterpieces. They just like working with each other like Leo and Scorsese

Haha yeah, that last bit was a joke. I need to rewatch the movies. The first one is barely coming up in my mind.

I know that They gave Sparrow one of the best entrances ever.

:laff:

That shyt was hilarious in the first one.

Jack comes in with epic Hans Zimmer's music playing with a :takedat: face.

Then you realize the big ship that he rolling in on wasn't that big.
In fact it's small.
And it's full of water.
And it's sinking fast.

By the time he gets to the docking area it's pretty much under water but he's still got that :youngsabo: face. Meanwhile everyone else in the docking area is giving him the :rudy: face.

:wow: shyt was hilarious. Wish the other movies were like that.

Honestly the first movie is a classic man. Can't take anything away from Johnny Depp in that movie. It was lightning in a bottle

I liked the first three, of course the first one was the best, felt fluid and new, plus I've loved and been obsessed with pirates and all that since I was a kid, so when I saw that movie it was like a dream realized too late, I was already 17 lol...but, it was a dope fukking movie. I liked both sequels, but they were top heavy and convoluted needlessly, but still entertaining, the fourth was flat and uninspired, I want a dark and bloody pirate movie, I feel that franchise has said all it could say.
