With the Artic/Climate Thread in mind, I'd like to share this Carlin video

I don't agree with everything in it, but George Carlin went in. Reading the DafunkDock post in the Artic thread made me think of it. I created a separate thread because I feel this branches it off into a more philosophical discussion as opposed to the scientific/sociological the other thread is.

If you have a chance, peep it.

They see me trolling, they hating.....
I was watching this same Carlin Standup last week and was thinking the same thing...

especially the part about endangered species and what not.

The hippie side of me wants to save all life and the planet tho, I dunno why, thats just who I am.

But animals and species have to die, its the normal cycle of existence, who are we to intervene? If dinosaurs hadn't of went extinct then we wouldn't be here today. Mammals would probably not have had the opportunity to evolve into primates because T rexes and other dinosuars would be on they ass like white on rice.

I dunno bro, I'm not a scientist, but I do think its wise to just preserve what u got while u got it (maybe thats selfish tho...)

:manny:

btw, the only Carlin standup i've seen was You are all diseased. Are any of the rest worth checking out?

George Carlin was the man.

That said, I think people lose sight of the fact that protecting the environment isn't just about saving animals or trees, it's rational self-interest. You can't just wreck the environment and expect it not to have negative consequences for humanity.

I really wonder if people are going to look back on this generation as the one that fukked up the envoronment.

I think that is the point Carlin made. The planet will be fine, but we will go away and the planet will go on.

one of my favorite quotes: The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, “Why are we here?”

Plastic… a$$hole.”
