All codecs play and run fine on the pc, my XBOX 360 finds all the titles and displays them as an extended, once I try to play any file I get this message:

"Video Error..Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer"

Of course I've done all that, reinstalled and everything...Im assuming it was something to do with the codecs? I downloaded the optional media codec on Xbox Live...anybody have experience with this?

what is the format of the videos you are trying to play? The xbox only supports a limited number of video codecs

I know, but all the files play if I go to "Xbox Video Player" and they all play in windows media center on my cpu. Im just going to call support tomorrow. I event tried converting some of them to .wmv and it still didn't work, and that was after downloading the divx and shark007 to my computer

I installed windows 7 in a virtual box and shared my video folder with it and it worked perfect with the XBOX 360. I guess this is just a windows 8 fail.

I had this working along time ago but even then the windows media center on the xbox was just too clunky.

1. Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs Thats where i got the codecs from
2. I was able to play mkv's...technically anything that would play on the computer would be played on the xbox...There is one catch, the xbox cant decode audio from DTS, and almost every mkv i download is encoded with that, if u can find some encoded with AC-3 it should play just fine.

Thanks, yea I got everything working now on the XBOX, even media browser , they have a glitch in the new Windows Media Center on Windows 8 that just wont play files from the extender...
