Stephen Hillenburg asked Nickelodeon not to do any spinoffs of Spongebob, and they agreed, but as soon as he died, then they announced four spinoffs. :scust:

Nick owns the franchise and can do what they want with it, but that still don't sit right with me. :hhh:

What other spinoffs have they made?

It’s true. Hillenburg worked on the Kamp Koral spin-off for a bit too before passing, but even still, it’s such a blatant cash grab and a spit in the face to disregard the wishes of the man responsible for their money-maker.

Not the first time this has happened to a content creator, and certainly won’t be the last time.

There was a tweet from Vincent Waller (co-showrunner for SpongeBob) which said that Stephen knew about Kamp Koral before he died and the finished product would have put a smile on his face. It was going around that Nickelodeon waited for Stephen to die before announcing Kamp Koral, and the timing was very suspicious.

I feel like Stephen represented almost everything that Nick didn't. He wanted to end SpongeBob after the first movie because he felt like he had said everything he wanted to say, and he didn't want the show to jump the shark. But Nick ordered more episodes. When they were promoting the first movie, Stephen rejected any tie-ins that he felt were harmful for kids (like Burger King), and he was part of curating the soundtrack. He didn't want any "commercial weirdos" like Justin Timberlake. He chose The Flaming Lips and Ween and artists like that.

A guy like Stephen really put a lot of himself into his art, but at the end of the day, the business had the last word. :francis:

Episode 1 pretty much explains everything.

The show takes place in Patrick's imagination.

Hints the reason why Patrick has a sister and his parents, Squid and SpongeBob look different on this show.

Parents: Patrick Star Show.
