Has Moscow ever been captured?

In the mid-16th century Ivan IV (the Terrible) conquered the Mongol khanates of Kazan (1552) and Astrakhan (1556), but in 1571 the Crimean Tatars captured Moscow, burning everything but the Kremlin. The annals record that only 30,000 of 200,000 inhabitants survived.

Napoleon's army enters Moscow in 1812 :

Russians always retreat when Moscow is under threat of capture... then the Russians burn the city .

Hitler was an idiot for attacking them at all. Probably the biggest reason Germany lost the war.

Hitler was a really bad strategist, like many demagogues he was just a big talker without any substance or brains to back it up.

But he didnt really have a choice. He didn't have enough steel and oil to win the war. Italy had proven themselves absolutely useless at this point.

Given the unrest in Russia since Stalin took power the idea that they might fall apart when invaded had some merit. As it turned out Stalin had killed enough Russians at this point that the Russians were more scared of him than Hitler.
