Why would Knick fans owe/give Jeremy Lin a standing ovation?

I keep hearing this on radio today or twitter.....what did Lin do deserving of such?

He played like 18 games last year then quit on the team in the playoffs when they would have needed him most, just so he could maintain his flash in the pan image and get a big contract Then he bolted for the money.

I don't fault him for taking the money, but he didn't do anything for the Knicks organization to be worthy of this discussion taking place
