Its what made me NOT like him anymore until recently. During the event he got a lot of people killed.
Thank god MCU Tony wasn't like comic Tony or else people in theaters would have really hated him.
They couldn't go all out because they understood the ramifications going forward...he'd be ruined. Only way they could have let him be even as half as much of an a$$hole as he was in the comics would be if he was planning on leaving the role.
Same reason why nobody "died" in Civil War. I honestly think there might have been a version where Cap dies or at least there was but even if Rhodes had gotten killed...they couldn't be like well THAT'S WHAT YOU GET nikka!
Nah...the quickest way for the whole "Civil War" to get squashed would be to have somebody die, kinda hard to justify bickering and shyt when someone actually gets killed. Real people, unless they were REALLY enemies would probably drop the whole shyt at that point.
But yea, had Spiderman not come into the fold with the prospect of Tony being his mentor, they could have gotten a little darker...but they had to pull back because the audience would never be able to reconcile seeing him do the type of shyt he did in the comics, some of it was pretty unforgivable and would have ruined his good will or would have had to make him a permanent heel. And Civil War really is just getting started...he's' world police now so there's still time for him to bust some more snake moves now that he's answering to Ross.
