I'm rewatching like damn this dude literally had a hard on for the nikka :dame: . Even when his bosses told him to leave the shyt alone he kept fukking it up for the team and risked his job because he couldn't get Stringer out his head.

He ain't have that energy for the Greeks though.:mjpls:

Because white cops always obsessed with black folks making us the bad guy in their minds even IRL:mjpls:

was obsessed with String because of how clean the Barksdale Organization was -- it took some doing and it fed his ego & need to be #1 to be able to get them off the streets. Also, when he was investigating String, he knew he was a cut above anyone else in the streets. Saw this nikka at the farmer's market buyin fruit and taking college courses. Once he started to go official with the paper print, man's pride was shook. Really wanted to stop him before he became white-collar

Didn't have that energy for the Greeks because in Season 2 he was riding a fukkin boat for already pissing off the powers that be, also, the level of Organization the Greeks had was worlds beyond the Barksdales. Once word was up, they were in the wind

maybe the Greeks was too high level, but Mcnulty was fixated on Stringer like he was fukking his ex wife or something. At least the obsession Valchek had with Frank Sabotka was personal.

It seem like Mcnulty lowkey ain't like the fact that a black man could be organized and moving up beyond street shyt. Like he said to Marlo "government ain't want you to be organized. They want y'all killing each other on the corners over some bullshyt".

Avon was the number one but dude was stuck on Stringer.

Because Stringer avoided arrest at the end of S1. One of McNulty’s major character traits is that he wants to prove that he’s the smartest, best detective in the BPD. So he naturally sees Stringer eluding justice as Stringer “beating” him, and spends S3 obsessed with rectifying that.

Notice that in S1 McNulty isn’t any more concerned with Stringer than he is with Avon Barksdale.

Never mind being a ragging drunk too

Yeah that surely didn't help, but it's more of a symptom than root cause. How soul-suckingly bad is a situation where you work for an organization where your skill set is needed, but they do everything possible to stop you from using it? The alcohol is just a bad coping mechanism. Like Freamon told him: "boooooy, you need something outside of this here..."

And he has nothing else.
