Public transit in the U.S. is notorious for being infrequent and unreliable. Americans had to wait 17 minutes on average to get on public transit in 2022, while 45% of Americans have no access to public transportation at all. And while the U.S. spends billions in funding every year, transits across the nation like the MTA, RTA and SEPTA are finding themselves in a fiscal crisis. Ultimately it’s the riders who are paying for the deficit. So just how did public transit in the U.S. get so awful? And can it be improved?

It’s hard to say when real public transportation has a race based hurdle in most places that should have been made illegal decades ago. Any progress on climate change is made moot unless something is done about cars. Nothing else in the world matters more than climate change so

You gotta explain this.

The oil and automotive industry killed transit. LA had one of the best transit systems in the world until the automotive industry gutted it.

I am interested in this topic and considering doing this as a career. Here is a good series of eps sort of related to public transit, but more on why cities are built badly in America

For generations, many men were shamed for not having their own car to use at their own will, even for simple shyt like dating and picking up/dropping off a girl and so on. Previous decades, even rap songs were talking about broke dudes catching the bus.

The negatice connotations of public transportation is hard to break for the older generation. The whole Uber/Lyft lifestyle is still less than 10 years old in most cities.

I mean it all kind of goes back to propaganda and media, but I think it’s bigger than just men not getting women. That’s not what is influencing policy.

And status symbols, is another major thing I forgot in my previous post.

Driving a Benz, Beamer, or something higher is a MAJOR social clout booster, that its embedded in our culture in America. It is an asset of wealth, especially outside of major cities.

U speaking some facts, bro.

My Dad told me that having your own car is a advantage..

He also told me this while he was driving a old 1985 Ford F-150 and also to not to get upset at my female classmate for teasing me.

Shyt,

In NYC, everyone rode the bus.

If your car broke down or got broken into, u was screwed.

My friend had her Kia Sorento broken into this morning. She called my phone crying too and all she was doin was washing clothes.
