I mean in every other sport its pro athletes, basketball, soccer, tennis, even golf this year, so why is boxing this sanctity that shouldn't be changed.

Professional boxers are professional killers, u think its cool for grown men with certified lethal and dangerous weapons on their arms to face teenagers learning the ropes of the sport, most Olympic fighters cant cut in the pros at all one bit, now think what happens when a bytchmade elite level fighter or a b class fighter decides to lace em up, this ain't tennis, basketball etc, although the Olympics has a point system, boxings intent is to inflict harm, someone could get hurt....

I only support it for long retired fighters feeling the itch, wouldn't mind a Tyson, or srl seeing what they still have

A mismatch in professional boxing alone can have serious consequences...that would only increase tenfold with a seasoned pro fighter facing someone who doesn't have even a quarter of their experience..thats why i dont support this at all..they need keep that distinction between the amateurs and the pros

you don't gotta worry about pros fight to get paid lmao ain't nobody fighting in the goddamn olympics, maybe some old washed up guys

Also professional just means licensed, there's a lot of pros who gonna get beat up by those amateurs to be honest, a lot of these guys are bums, the elite wouldn't waste their time because they are getting paid to fight not represent their country.

ABC on pro boxers fighting in the Olympics
By Michael Mazzulli / ABC President

As President of the Association of Boxing Commissions, the Board of Directors and I are disappointed in AIBA’s decision to allow amateur boxers to compete with professionals in the Olympics. Even worse than just a majority vote, the vote of 84 to 0 in favor, is a statement in and of itself.

The ABC is committed to fighter safety, so hopefully, the AIBA/IOC Committee will consider the potential risk and future ramifications of allowing amateur boxers to compete with professional boxers. Surely, their decision should be determined by athlete safety. The ABC has spoken about out against this proposal previously, from the use/non-use of headgear, boxing style and experience, method of scoring awards, and a level playing field, this proposal is fraught with danger. As we know in boxing, one bad match-up can mean the difference, literally, in life and death.

I hope both the IOC and AIBA will reconsider their stance.

BBBofC Statement: Following the announcement that AIBA are to permit professional boxers to compete in future Olympic Games, the British Boxing Board of Control confirm their objection to such a proposal.

It is the belief of the British Boxing Board of Control that such a move is against the spirit of the Olympics, disrespectful to the many GB Amateur boxers who, throughout the Olympic cycle compete around the world in qualifying tournaments and ultimately dangerous.

It is the hope of the British Boxing Board of Control and many within the professional Sport in Great Britain and throughout the world that AIBA reconsider such a move that is not beneficial to the Sport as a whole.

Shiet, there's Gold Medalists that don't do well as pros...

I understand that the 3 round, 2 minute (unless they changed that too) format favors the amateurs, but still..... I've sparred a former pro fighter who had accolades in his own right.

shyt was not the same. :whew:

Could you imagine College football teams being thrown in against a NFL squad? :pachaha:

This!! Bomani went in on this and I agree 100%. Imagine GGG going up against some amateur from some 3rd world country, or an Andre Ward against some amateur dude from Iran. Son, this aint basketball or archery where you arent inflicting pain on someone else. This is boxing. These dudes can die. If you dont see that, I dont know what to tell you.

Because it was a sport so far where amateur talents got opportunity to shine in front of wider public on Olympics and now they will still have the chance but their chances to really shine will decrease.

Idk but the Cubans and Russians have nikkas in their 30s out there anyway :manny:

And they used to routinely get that work in the AM's from OUR teenagers who sometimes had only a few dozen amateur fights...against dudes in their late-20's/early 30's who had 100's of amateur fights

no headgear...pro-style scoring/rules and all that...

huge difference though going against seasoned, world class pros who are accustomed to training and pacing themselves for 12 rd fights...
