why is it so celebrated in western culture to go out and get wasted every week? to dream your life away? to go out and fukk as many people as possible?



I feel like in the west we're programmed to indulge



be it money (greed is good), sex, booze, drugs..



we're inundated with these images of success and status where everyone is having as much fun as possible. that next fix, that new material pleasure...this is the new sodom and gomorrah



is everywhere like this or is it just the west?

I wouldn't say the west is "more decadent", but I think commercial interests take advantage of base human impulses and you mix in the individual freedom stance and you have people going over the top

it's not really normal to walk around and see a 60 ft tall poster of a nearly naked woman selling a perfume.. or to have huge shiny casinos... or ultra violent movies... it's normalized because corporate activity pushes these things to the limits and it appeals to our base reptilian mind

Western Civs and American in particular have an emphasis placed on the self and not the community/family. The illusion of upward mobility makes us feel like we are entitled to the finer things in life, and responsibilities are things lesser people worry about.

Advertisements appeal to the "you earned it/you deserve the best" complex in us. And also biologically, the more you release endorphines the more you need to do to get to the same level of "fun". So the very moment you got to that one awesome party you go to all the other awesome parties hoping to re-create that high.
