Why is the play of defensive backs so awful in today's NFL?

None of these cats can play the ball at all except for an Ed Reed

Yesterday was some of the worst play ive ever seen from dbacks in that Bronco game but the reality is secondary play in the NFL at an all time low and pretty pathetic

These dudes seem like they are just athletes that were forced to play there and have no idea what the hell theyre doing

The new rules don't help. The ones that play very aggressively usually get fukked by refs. That's one reason.

Not beign able to stay with wr's yes thats part of the rules but the way they have no idea how to play the ball in the air has nothing to do with the rules

Im going to need someone to explain to me what The "rules" had to do with the bombs the broncos gave up last night. The 2 Torrey Smith ones and the 70 yarder to tie the game.

Because they are stuck in limbo between old style techniques being taught from pee wee and this new two hand touch rape passing records league.

Once again playing the flight of the football and having no bal skills[pause] has nothing to do with the new rules

Again the rules man. You can't jam, you can't be within 10 yards of the receiver without a flag. Moore made a bad play. Champ got burned. That's not a legitimate case against corner back play especially when you have 2nd year quarterbacks breaking historic records.

Let's talk about these scrub a$$ receivers in todays game. All part of the design. Most of the dudes would not be lining up out there in 90's?

Outside of not playing the ball these guys are horrible 'tacklers' too, maybe thats always been the case. Lunging into the upper body of receivers :what: Diving at RB's ankles with their arms folded across their chest :why: Nothing I appreciate more from a DB than a good form tackle. see: Leon Hall, Charles Woodson..thats all I could think of off the top of my head

thats exactly what he's talking bout. playing the ball in air has nothing to do with the line of scrimmage. when you giving up deep bombs like they were, taking bad angles on the ball thats bad db play homie.
some of that was also play design by Bmo tho. holding the safety to 1 side

There's a reason why CB is the most drafted position.

I'm not tryna be funny or anything so I hope op doesn't take it like that but does anyone think it would be a good idea if we had an "Official Football 101" thread or something similar? This is definitely one of the best basketball forums around but some of the football talk I see leaves me staring at my laptop/phone like :dwillhuh:

It could be about anything from X's and O's to strategies or questions like the one posed in this thread. I thought about this the other day when the topic of the option in the nfl came up. I'm sure we could all learn something new about the game we thought we knew everything about.

:yeshrug:

just a thought...
